“Exotic” is the most-used word on DC weed menus, and the least explained. Some menus call any strain with a fun name exotic. Real exotic weed strains are something more specific: rare, small-batch, top-shelf flower with standout looks, a loud aroma and limited supply. This guide explains what makes a strain exotic, how to spot the real thing, and which exotic strains are on the Urban Flavors DC shelf right now.
What is an exotic weed strain?
An exotic strain is premium flower that stands out on three things:
- Bag appeal: dense, well-trimmed buds covered in frosty trichomes, often with purple or bright orange hues.
- Nose and flavor: a strong terpene profile you can smell the moment the jar opens, from candy and fruit to fuel and gas.
- Scarcity: grown in small batches by boutique cultivators, so it rotates fast and sells out.
How to spot real exotics (and avoid hype)
- Look for the grower. Named cultivators such as Fig Farms, Sherbinskis and Connected put their names on their flower.
- Check the buds, not just the name. A trendy name on loose, leafy flower is not exotic.
- Expect a higher price. Exotics cost more per gram than everyday flower. A bargain “exotic” usually is not one.
- Smell before you judge. Real exotics have a loud, distinct nose.
